GreenLamp ZHAW Lunch Lecture 20 May 2025

On Tuesday 20 May 2025, GreenLamp and ZHAW School of Health Sciences had the pleasure of co-hosting a powerful and engaging event at the ZHAW’s Institute of Midwifery and Reproductive Health in Winterthur.

Dr. Anteneh Dirar, Dean of the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia College of Midwives, delivered an insightful talk on the challenges in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and midwifery in Ethiopia. His presentation highlighted the critical issues around maternal health, the challenges faced by midwives, and how these are being addressed through training and ongoing support.

Contributions from GreenLamp and ZHAW speakers added further depth and reinforced the longstanding tripartite collaboration between our organisations. The audience of interested students and staff, along with GreenLamp supporters, responded with thoughtful and engaged questions, especially around the realities and needs of midwives in Ethiopia.

A big thank you to all who attended and contributed to this important discussion on global health equity and midwifery education.

Message of thanks from Dr. Anteneh Dirar

” …my heartfelt thanks for the generous invitation to visit Switzerland and for the exceptional hospitality extended to me throughout my stay. It was a truly memorable experience, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to spend time in such a beautiful country under your kind and thoughtful care.

Beyond the wonderful hospitality, the visit was immensely valuable in terms of experience and learning. I gained a lot of insight both personally and professionally that will be very helpful moving forward. Being able to observe and engage with all of you has broadened my perspective, and I will carry those lessons with me.”
