Ethiopia National Day 2025

On Ethiopia’s National Day, we honor a country rich in tradition, resilience, and generosity, and there is no better symbol of Ethiopian hospitality than the traditional coffee ceremony.

In Ethiopia, coffee is more than a drink, it is a moment of gathering, of slowing down, of connecting with neighbors and family. The ceremony is a cherished daily ritual, led with grace and intention, often by women. As the beans roast and the air fills with their rich aroma, stories are shared, decisions are made, and bonds are strengthened.

At GreenLamp, we see this spirit of connection and care echoed in the work of incredible midwives like Sr. Masresha Kaleb, a Hamlin College graduate serving in rural southern Ethiopia. Raised in Yirgacheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most famous coffee regions, Masresha has brought not only medical care but also hope, compassion, and community leadership to the families she serves.

Despite the challenges of working in a remote health center with no electricity or phone service, Sr. Masresha stayed true to her purpose: “to be a solution provider for those mothers who seek good healthcare and access.” Just like the coffee ceremony, her work is grounded in community, continuity, and care.

Thanks to your support and our solar system installation, Sr. Masresha can now provide safe delivery services even at night. Her story reminds us that small actions, like a warm cup of coffee or a single birth attended, can ripple into lasting impact.
