Ethiopia New Years Day 11 September 2025

As Ethiopia celebrates Enkutatash, the New Year of light, hope, and new beginnings, we are delighted to share some bright news from Tigray.

Work has now started in 24 health centres, bringing reliable solar power where it is needed most. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Samson, Dawit, and Tefera, together with the strong support of Dr. Melaku from Mekele Hamlin, solar suitcases and solar fridges are being installed to power maternity wards and health services for over 600,000 people.

⚡ The upgraded systems include larger batteries (protected in boxes), charge controllers, charging points for essential medical equipment, a solar fridge, and even a high-powered surgical lamp. This means brighter, safer facilities for mothers and newborns – a true beacon of hope, as local women have told us. 💚

Despite challenges such as fuel shortages, the dedication of our team and local partners has made progress possible.

Ethiopia New Years Day

11 September 2025

On 11 September, Ethiopians everywhere celebrate the New Year.
Unlike in many parts of the world, the Ethiopian New Year begins in September.
This is when the rainy season ends. The land turns green, and the yellow flowers bloom. It is a time of fresh beginnings, joy, and thanksgiving.
