On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the power of women leading change in their communities.

At GreenLamp, our LEAD pillar focuses on empowering midwives with education, training, and professional networks so they can grow as confident leaders. Through initiatives like the Hamlin Midwife Alumni Network (HMAN), midwives across rural Ethiopia stay connected, continue learning and support one another in improving maternal care.

Their leadership goes beyond the delivery room, from advising on family planning and infant nutrition to advocating against harmful practices such as FGM.

When midwives lead, entire communities benefit

International Womens’ Day

8 March 2026

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March each year, recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality. The UN theme for 2025 is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”. In 2026, the focus will be on demanding equal rights and justice for women and girls worldwide, as no nation has fully closed the legal gaps between men and women.

Members are the ‘rocks’ of our community, they motivate us, support us, generate new ideas, and help us to advance our goals and make a greater impact.
