AGM & Member's Lunch 2025

We are delighted to share the key outcomes from our Annual General Meeting held on 6 March 2025 at Hotel Glockenhof in central Zurich. We appreciate the ongoing support and commitment from our GreenLamp members to empower women in Ethiopia through good health, education, and sustainable technology.

We were fortunate to have a special guest, Program Consultant Zelalem Belete, who actively participated via Zoom, providing attendees with his valuable insights of our operations directly from Ethiopia.

Key Highlights from the AGM

Impact Report
We kicked off by sharing the key achievements from our recently published Impact Report 2024. This highlighted that we are exceeding our projected targets across all our programmes and are growing our reach of support across Ethiopian communities.

Board and Team Changes
We are pleased to welcome Marion Struber to our Executive Board. Marion will focus on Organisational Development, bringing in her longstanding experience as a corporate analyst in the financial sector, to help shape this area, as GreenLamp continues to grow and evolve. She also continues her engagement in the municipality fundraising team, building on her dedicated work as a volunteer at GreenLamp.

We are delighted that Beatrice Friedli will now lead the LEARN pillar bringing her wealth of expertise as a midwife, midwifery teacher and former role as director of the Institute of Midwifery and Reproductive Health at ZHAW, Switzerland..

We welcomed two new brilliant volunteers Heather Connor and Olympia Fascinetti who will support on communications and fundraising.

A special thank you to our Founder Christina Blecher for her years of dedication – although less active on the Board, Christina will continue to support GreenLamp as well as leading the “Leadership and Interpersonal Communication” training for midwifery students.

Financial Report
Our audited financial statements were approved, and we reaffirmed our commitment to transparency and sustainable growth.

Pillar Updates

  • The LEARN pillar continues to expand, with scholarships, leadership training, and professional skill development for midwives. Since 2012 we have sponsored 74 scholarships and are currently sponsoring 34 trainee midwives.
  • The LIGHT program now boasts 325 solar installations in rural Ethiopian health centres, with 41 systems installed in 2024. Ongoing sustainability measures including training, is ensuring long-term impact.
  • The LEAD initiative has seen significant engagement from midwife alumni, advocating for further training and support programs. In the past years the alumni submitted several high-quality training proposals to GreenLamp, addressing urgent needs in the rural maternal health care system.
  • The Ferring Holistic Community Program has positively influenced maternal and new-born care, with increased antenatal visits, ultrasound services, and health centre improvements, including maternity waiting rooms. The program currently supports 7 health centres and 2 midwife mentors along with solar systems to power essential equipment in each centre.
